Washed Rwanda and Washed Colombia

With the warmer spring weather upon us and the hotter days ahead, we begin to crave refreshing things. Lively fresh fruit, sparkling drinks, and in our case... some vibrant, juicy and sweet washed coffees!

This month we have two washed coffees. The first is a washed red bourbon sourced by Forward Coffee from the Shyira Coffee Washing Station that we released earlier. We found that it can pull a lovely espresso and we liked it so much, we decided to bring in some more so it will be available a bit longer. The second is a lot of caturra and castillo sourced by The Coffee Quest from Finca La Aguada in Antioqua, Colombia. It gave us vibes of sweet red apple slices drizzled with caramel sauce.

Shyira CWS

Washed Red Bourbon

From Muraho Trading Co, founders of Shyira CWS:

"Our “Little Baby” Shyira is the smallest of all our CWS however it is the highest located known in Rwanda sitting at 1850m above sea level. Shyira is an hour drive up the hills from the township of Musanze (Ruhengeri). The weather conditions, soil type and its high-altitude lands makes this CWS an ideal setting for high-quality coffee processing and production.

Shyira has been met with some challenges with a significant mudslide in 2020. The purchase of this coffee along with a premium paid this season helps to support the re-development of their community.

Finca La Aguada

Washed Caturra and Castillo

From The Coffee Quest:

Finca La Aguada, sits at an altitude of 2000 m.a.s.l. and here Aura lives with her family. One horse, a small family, only 4-5 employees. It seems Aura doesn’t have so many tools on her Finca, and yet her coffee is remarkable. For her being a coffee farmer is a substantial part of her familiar tradition since she cannot remember being away from the coffee field. The family helps her in running the farm and during the harvest season. What makes Aura’s attitude standing out is that the 4-5 employees of the Finca are part of the family. She prepares lunch and dinner for them, as well.
