May Box
Uganda Auction Lot and Colombia Chiroso
This month we are highlighting two unique regions growing unique coffees. The first is from the Best of Pearl Uganda Auction,
a SL14/SL28 lot produced by Mountain Harvest in the high elevation slopes of Mount Elgon. Mountain Harvest works with
Arabica producing only families (where Uganda is known for producing Robusta). The second coffee is a Chiroso variety
grown almost exclusively in the Antioquia region of Colombia.
Our Canadian subscribers are getting a little treat this month. Included in the box is a sampler chocolate from
local cacao roaster and chocolate maker DesBarres Chocolate. Just like
coffee, it's interesting to see the flavour nuances of origin in chocolate.
Mountain Harvest
Honey SL14 SL 28
This is our second coffee from Uganda, and while it took a very long time to arrive, we're
quite happy to be able to finally showcase this coffee. Mountain Harvest works with small arabica
producing families, providing assistance and sustainability practices, as well as offering a premium
and bonus on quality coffees.
From Mountain Harvest:
Farmers on Mount Elgon grow coffee at some of the highest elevations for coffee anywhere in the world, ranging from 1,600 to 2,200 meters. Our coffees have diverse and interesting cup profiles depending on altitude and processing. Our micro-lots are well-balanced with a sweet clean finish.
Until recently, Mount Elgon has been an untapped origin for Arabica coffee, with Uganda mainly known for its Robusta crops. We’re working to fulfill the potential of Ugandan coffee by elevating it to the highest standards

Finca Agualinda
Washed Chiroso
From La Baia:
The Chiroso origins originate in Urrao, Antioquia and it is rarely seen outside the region. Made famous and grown by producers Jose Arcadio Caro and neighbor Doña Carmen Cecilia Montoya. Both famously would win top honors in the Cup of Excellence for several years in row putting Urrao on the map in 2014. The trees named “Chiroso” as its cherries and seeds were much thinner and longer in appearance compared to the traditional Caturra variety growing in the region. The variety became popular among producers in the region because of its ability to thrive under cold weather elements and its ability to shell out high productivity yields.
