Bambito Estate is a high-altitude specialty coffee farm in Panama's Chiriqui Province, situated between 1,660 and 1,800 meters above sea level, near Volcan Baru. Its rich volcanic soils and unique micro climates, created by mountain ridges and north-facing slopes, provide natural protection from winds and ensure less direct sun exposure. This results in cooler temperatures (50-75°F) and slow cherry maturation, enhancing bean density and complexity. Two natural springs supply water for their mill. The 10-hectare coffee farm, with an additional 5 hectares preserved as rainforest, balances production with natural preservation. This ideal environment is perfectly tailored for premium coffee, especially delicate varietals like Geisha, contributing significantly to its acclaimed flavor profile.
Bambito Estate Coffee is a multi-generational family business, operating since the early 1900s, with current management by its fourth and fifth generations, including Priscilla Amar Gonzalez. Guided by the "Kaizen" philosophy of continuous improvement, they employ expert pickers with rigorous training and aim for a minimal "1% error margin" in processing. Their commitment extends to sustainability, re purposing coffee by-products as organic fertilizer, and community welfare, providing year-round breakfast to a local elementary school and prioritizing local employment.
Bambito's Washed Geisha, a prized varietal originating from Ethiopia, is globally renowned for its exceptional quality and unique flavor profile, consistently achieving high cupping scores. It is celebrated for its bright jasmine floral, delicate citrus, and a silky mouthfeel, with a lively yet refined acidity. The meticulous washed (wet) processing method, which removes fruit layers before drying, is key to this clarity. Bambito Estate performs this process in-house with "up-to-date equipment" and mechanical demucilagers, ensuring precision and consistency. This method allows the bean's intrinsic flavors to shine, resulting in a super clean, elegant cup that highlights the Geisha's delicate characteristics.
